Commenting on Electric Vehicle Association (EVA) England’s latest survey of the UK’s EV drivers [1], Colin Walker, Head of Transport at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), said:

“To have such an overwhelming proportion of EV drivers (95%) saying they would recommend an EV to family and friends is a ringing endorsement of EV ownership by those who actually drive them.

“Sales of EVs are up 26% in 2025 so far, [2] with more and more people attracted by falling costs and an ever expanding choice of models. The second-hand EV market, where most of us buy our cars, is also booming, with sales up 40%. [3] But changes to the Government’s EV sales targets could weaken this momentum, and incentivise the sale of plug-in hybrids - which burn 490% more fuel than their manufacturers claim [4] and cost hundreds of pounds a year more to own and run [5] - at the expense of electric vehicles. This would only serve to keep British households stuck driving dirtier and more expensive petrol cars for longer”.
