Commenting on the Budget, Dr Jonathan Marshall, head of analysis at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:

“A mixed bag of green policies in the Budget point in the right direction, but ultimately fail to deliver on pledges made in the manifesto. Eyes will now be focused on the Government’s infrastructure strategy, potentially one of the most important documents in decades, to put the UK on track to meet its net zero emissions target.

The Government wants the year that its hosts the UN climate summit to be the ‘year of climate action’ but that has to start with policy action that supports business and the country reach net zero. Open goals on cutting energy waste, backing low carbon power sources and cleaning up transport are all easy wins, and make up minimum expectations for a Government touting its green credentials."
