Commenting on the appointment of Louise Haigh MP to the role of Secretary of State for Transport, the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit's (ECIU) transport analyst Colin Walker said,

“On assuming office, Labour inherits the Conservative’s zero emission vehicle mandate which is already driving down costs of new EVs and driving uptake, enabling more households to access cheaper driving.

“The new Secretary of State will need to build on this progress remembering that EVs sold new today will be the second hand EVs of tomorrow, which will help millions more make the move to cheaper driving. These sales will also help secure investment in the UK’s EV manufacturing delivering the green, net zero growth that Rachel Reeves has promised.

“EVs running on more British renewable energy, another Labour promise, will mean greater energy security. Critically, the new transport secretary will need to ask what more the Government can do to tackle the prevalence of misinformation around electric cars to further drive things forwards.”
