Commenting on projections from analysts Cornwall Insight suggesting the energy price cap could rise to £1,762  a year for a typical dual fuel consumer [1], Jess Ralston, Head of Energy at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:

"Energy bills remaining high into the new year makes it clear that the current crisis is not over, with households continuing to feel the price of reliance on gas. Insulating homes, moving away from gas boilers for heating, building good quality new homes and accelerating towards clean power is the UK’s pathway to energy independence and more stable prices.

"Reducing gas demand by getting on with the Future Homes Standard and ramping up the Warm Homes Plan's insulation schemes will stop the UK needing to import more from abroad as the North Sea output continues its inevitable decline. The Energy Crisis Commission found that the UK is 'dangerously unprepared' for a future crisis [2] and we are not yet insulating as many homes or installing as many heat pumps as we could."
