National Energy System Operator publishes Winter Outlook: comment

"As we enter the another winter of the energy crisis, many households are still struggling with expensive bills which is a reflection of the UK's high dependency on gas for power generation and heating. Prices will become more stable as we build more renewables because electricity from British wind and solar farms reduces our exposure to volatile international gas markets.

"We've paid the price for reliance on gas over the last few years and unfortunately it seems we are not out of the woods yet as geopolitical tensions remain across Europe and the Middle East. Until we end our reliance on gas for power and heating, we're vulnerable to what happens on the international markets, with measures to reduce gas demand like insulation and electric heat pumps being a key part of the puzzle, alongside renewables."
