Commenting on the BVRLA's latest Leasing Outlook [1] Colin Walker, Head of Transport at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit, said:
"This report makes it clear that less well-off families are really benefitting from salary sacrifice schemes, enabling them to get their hands on an EV that can be significantly cheaper to run than a petrol car.
“Some commentators have tried to dismiss increasing EV sales by suggesting it's fleets not private buyers who are making purchases, but this report suggests many private buyers are simply turning to salary sacrifice schemes which can offer significant savings but are classified as fleet sales.
“The Government’s recent weakening of the ZEV mandate could well lead to fewer, cheaper EVs on the market having removed much of the incentive for manufacturers to compete, leaving millions of families worse off and driving more polluting cars in the years ahead.”
