Commenting on the Government's announcement that it will prioritise projects that drive clean energy for electricity grid connections, Jess Ralston, analyst at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), said:

"Making sure that grid connections don't hold back the roll out of clean power and green industries is essential to achieving energy independence. The net zero economy grew by 10% GVA last year [2], three times more than the rest of the economy, showing that clean industries are the future. And every wind farm we connect in the North Sea means less imported gas from abroad.

"Stopping projects that may never go ahead from taking up space in the queue is a no brainer move that means that businesses can start making the most of the UK's renewables quicker, and the price stability that comes with it, while ensuring renewables are maxed out helps to get Britain off gas, and away from the influence of foreign actors like Putin."
