Commenting on the announcement that large parts of England will remain in drought [1], Tom Lancaster, land, food and farming analyst at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:

“It’s been another torrid year for many farmers, with crop yields down and many struggling to grow enough grass to feed their livestock. This is what farming in a changing climate looks like, and why getting to net zero emissions to bring balance back to our climate is so important for our long term food security.

“With the drought expected to last well into next year, if we don’t get above average rainfall this autumn and winter, we may be in an even worse situation next summer.”
