Wildfires continue to spread across Europe: comment

"Climate change continues to make summer 2025 extremely hot and dangerous in many parts of the world. Alongside UK fires in Dorset [2] and Edinburgh, [3] there are wildfires blazing in at least seven other countries around the world. [4]

"French farms and vineyards in ashes show the devastation this causes to people’s livelihoods and homes. Extreme weather has been linked to higher food prices around the world. In the UK we imported nearly £18 billion worth of food from the seven countries on fire right now, including nearly two million tonnes of maize and wheat, and hundreds of tonnes of kilograms of fresh fruit and veg. "Just three months from the next UN climate summit, it’s a stark warning that this will continue to worsen and grow in cost until we cut our emissions from burning fossil fuels to net zero - the only solution we have to climate change, and averting ever more dangerous impacts into the future."
