Commenting on a survey of UK public opinion on climate change by Yale University, which reveals the scale of public concern over the issue [1], Alasdair Johnstone from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:

“Polling over many years has consistently shown that the UK public are both concerned about climate change and its impacts, at home and abroad, and support policy action to tackle it. Indeed, this has generally been the case across most countries including the United States.

"Reaching net zero emissions is the only way we halt the climate extremes that people are worried about and increasingly seeing in their area. So, it’s unsurprising that support for the UK’s net zero target remains high and, as this latest polling shows, a vast majority of the public support the use of renewable energy for providing their electricity. Indeed, polling conducted at the time of the 2024 General Election showed that the British public saw more renewables and less oil and gas as the best route to ensuring the UK’s energy security.” [2]
