Commenting on confirmation from NESO (the National Energy System Operator) that on 11 November at 7:30pm, wind generated 22,711MW of electricity to set a new maximum wind generation record [1], Jess Ralston, Energy Analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), said: "Every turn of wind turbine blade means less gas we have to burn in a power station to generate the electricity we need to power our homes.

"Given North Sea gas output has been falling for years and will continue to do so whatever new drilling might take place, building more British renewables is a surefire route to greater UK energy independence. And more wind power is also helping to drive down wholesale costs by squeezing more expensive gas power off the grid." [2]
