Record solar installations: comment
291,000 new solar installations were recorded in the 12 months to August 2026, the most in any 12-month period since 2012.

Commenting on figures from the government showing solar panel installations - most of which were placed on domestic rooftops - hit a 14 year high, [1] Jess Ralston, analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:
"This is clear progress showing households and businesses are willing to invest in net zero tech that helps them take control of their energy bills and reduces their exposure to gas price shocks.
"Solar records continuing to be broken demonstrates growing public appetite, and every bit of solar installed helps to get us off gas that is increasingly coming from the likes of Trump - which will be the case with or without new drilling in the North Sea, where around 90% of the oil and gas has already been extracted."
