The Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP has joined the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit Advisory Board.

Mrs Leadsom has been the Member of Parliament for South Northamptonshire since 2010 and held a number of senior positions in Government, including Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Minister of State for Energy, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President and Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

“I am delighted to be joining the ECIU Advisory Board and looking forward to supporting the group’s important work.

“2021 is set to be an important year for the UK and its leadership on climate change. Hosting the UN Climate Summit in November, creating more sustainable jobs in low carbon industries and ‘building back better and greener’ to help the whole UK recover from the Covid-19 pandemic will be critical. Decarbonisation and the green agenda have never been more important.”

ECIU Director Peter Chalkley welcomed Mrs Leadsom to the Advisory Board.

“I am delighted that Andrea has decided to join us. She was one of the first senior figures of any Government around the world to commit to a net zero target,” he said.

“Her experience at a senior level in Government, and particularly her knowledge of the energy sector and business will be invaluable to ECIU and our work supporting informed debate on climate change and the journey towards net zero emissions.”
