The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) is delighted to welcome Catherine Mitchell, Professor of Energy Policy at the University of Exeter, to its Advisory Board.

Launched in August, ECIU aims to stimulate informed debate on energy and climate change issues in the UK.

Welcoming Professor Mitchell to the Advisory Board, ECIU Director Richard Black said she would bring a wealth of experience on energy policy to ECIU.

Professor Mitchell said: “Here in the UK we face choices in our future energy pathways that have major implications for society.

“It’s vital therefore that the decisions upon which these choices are made are based on evidence and are legitimate. That requires an energy literate and connected society, which ECIU is supporting by promoting an informed public debate on energy and climate change.”

Richard Black said: “Catherine Mitchell has consistently been at the cutting edge of energy policy development in the UK.

“We’re delighted that she is joining our Advisory Board alongside so many other eminent people from academia, Parliament and civil society, and look forward to making full use of her insights as the UK grapples with its energy and climate challenges in the years ahead."

Professor Mitchell was a Lead Author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report, is a past Chair of the British Institute of Energy Economics, and has advised the UK Government in a range of positions.
