The Women's Institute welcomed the news today that people in the UK are using less energy even though the economy is growing.
Marylyn Haines Evans, Public Affairs Chair of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI), said: “The fact that people across Britain are using energy more efficiently without reducing living standards is really good news at a time of austerity when we are all watching what we spend.
“People can achieve a lot through simple things such as insulating homes, using smarter appliances, and simply turning things off when we don’t need them – but good regulations help by persuading manufacturers to improve their products.
“By cutting energy waste, we’re reducing the greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change and building a better future for the next generation, something that is a real priority for many WI members across the country.”
