Ann Jones joins ECIU Advisory Board

Originally a member of Llanddewi Brefi WI, Ann has been an active member of the organisation at Federation level, and was Chairman of Ceredigion Federation of Women's Institutes from 2010 to 2013. Ann was elected to the NFWI board in 2017; before this she was an ex officio member of the NFWI board as Chair of the Federations of Wales Committee from 2013. She replaces Marylyn Haines Evans, who has stepped down from the NFWI board, and who also sat on the ECIU Advisory Board.

“I am delighted to be joining the ECIU board and continuing the association begun by my predecessor, Marylyn Haines Evans,” said Ann Jones.

“Climate change is a concern that I share with WI members, many of whom are particularly worried about the risks that the changing climate poses both to women around the world, who are at the front line of the problem, and to people and the countryside here in Britain.

“Rural communities in particular have been hit hard by extreme weather like flooding, and while WI members will always volunteer to help those most affected, we must try to find a long-term solution to the problem, to help preserve our planet for future generations.”

Richard Black, director of the ECIU, welcomed Ann Jones to the Advisory Board.

“It’s fantastic that Ann Jones has agreed to help us in our work and continue the support that Marylyn Haines Evans has given us. Marylyn has been an outstanding member of our board since we launched in 2014, and we wish her all the best as she steps down from her position.

“The strong support and commitment from all of the staff and members of the Women's Institute on climate change is an inspiration, continuing as it does the WI’s long history of campaigning on important issues. The WI represents an important voice in the discussion on how best to tackle climate change, and we look forward to working with Ann closely.”
