The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) is delighted to welcome Lord John Krebs, Emeritus Professor of Zoology in the University of Oxford, onto its Advisory Board.

John Krebs served as Chief Executive of the Natural Environment Research Council from 1994 to 1999, and as Chair of the Food Standards Agency from 2000 to 2005. He entered the House of Lords as a crossbench Peer in 2007, and chaired the Lords Science and Technology Select Committee from 2010 to 2014, and sat on the Energy and Environment Select Committee until the recent dissolution of Parliament. He also chaired the Adaptation Sub-committee of the Committee on Climate Change, the government’s statutory advisor, from 2009 to 2017.

“I am delighted to be joining the ECIU Board, at a time when the implications of climate change are unfolding at an increasingly rapid pace,” he said.

“In this area perhaps more than any other, the relationship between scientific research, evidence-based policy making and informed media reporting is critical. ECIU is making a valuable contribution in supporting evidence-led debate in the public sphere, including in highlighting the impact of technological developments and how they relate to Government policy.”

ECIU Director Richard Black said:

“We are very pleased to welcome Lord Krebs to the ECIU Advisory Board. He has over the years combined a distinguished record in science with an outstanding record in public service, including notably at the Committee on Climate Change.

“Lord Krebs is also a leading advocate of evidence-led policy making, and has been very effective in explaining how complex scientific research, properly communicated, can be a powerful means of making better public policy. As such, his work is very much in harmony with the raison d'être of the ECIU, and he will be a very valuable Member our Board.”
