Liberal Democrat peer chairs EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee in House of Lords
Robin Teverson was Member of the European Parliament for Cornwall and West Plymouth between 1994 and 1999, becoming one of the first of two Liberal Democrats to be elected to the European Parliament. He was created a life peer as Baron Teverson, of Tregony in the County of Cornwall in 2006, joining the Liberal Democrat group in the House of Lords.
His main focus in the Chamber is climate change and energy issues and, as part of this work, he has chaired both the House of Lords EU select sub-committee on External Affairs, and its ad-hoc select committee on the Arctic.
“I am delighted to be joining the ECIU board, to support their work on issues which I consider to be extremely important,” he said.
“During my time working as a member of the European Parliament, I saw firsthand the leadership role and the influence on climate change that Britain has. As we ready ourselves to leave the European Union, I believe that it vital that we work to maintain our national role so that we are fully prepared to face both the threats posed by climate change, and to take advantage of the opportunities an effective response can offer.”
Richard Black, director of the ECIU, welcomed Lord Teverson to the Advisory Board.
“Robin Teverson’s knowledge and experience in the fields of energy and climate change, both in Europe and in the House of Lords, will be a very welcome addition to the ECIU board,” he said.
“It is vital that informed Parliamentarians are able to advise and inform Britain’s response to climate change, for the benefit of government and the country. The depth of knowledge represented by the peers on our Board has been invaluable to us, and we look forward to working with Lord Teverson.”
