The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit is delighted to welcome Stuart Roberts to its Advisory Board.

Stuart farms in Hertfordshire and was elected to the post of Deputy President of the National Farmers Union (NFU) earlier this year after serving two years as the Union’s Vice President.

“Energy and climate change have become much more important concerns for the British farmer in recent years, with many of us feeling the impacts of climate change and becoming producers of renewable energy as well as food,” he said.

“So I’m very pleased to be joining ECIU’s Advisory Board – obviously all attention is now on the coronavirus crisis, but when we come out the other side Britain will still be committed to reaching net zero emissions in 2050, and I believe agriculture is uniquely placed to be part of a low carbon recovery.”

Stuart replaces Guy Smith, who recently left the NFU leadership team, on the ECIU board.

“I’m delighted to be welcoming Stuart to our Advisory Board and look forward to lots of interesting conversations in the coming years,” said ECIU Director Richard Black.

“The importance of farming in Britain’s transition to a net zero economy is probably under-appreciated, but it’s absolutely pivotal – without a significant contribution from the land-based sector, net zero won’t happen, so it’s vital that the voice of farmers is recognised in this debate.

“I would also like to thank and pay tribute to Guy Smith, who’s been on our board since we started in 2014 and spoke at our very first public event – it’s been great working with Guy, and we all wish him all the best in the future.”
