Commenting on the news that Germany has taken a step closer to gas rationing after a drop in supplies from Russia [1], Gareth Redmond-King, International Lead at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:

“If Russia does turn off the taps, the international nature of the gas market means prices will surge, including UK imports from other countries and North Sea production.

“This could have knock-on impacts on UK consumer bills under the next price cap, as well as more immediate price spikes for businesses. The incentives to shift to renewables for electricity and electric heat pumps for home heating will only get stronger.”
