Commenting on new Government funding announced today for energy efficiency measures and heat pumps [1], Jess Ralston, analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said: "Ahead of an Election that will likely be fought on the cost of living and two years into a lingering gas crisis, the Government is signalling that it's recognised the importance of investment in fixing up the UK's leaky homes. Insulation can shield households from the impacts of high gas prices and reduce the UK's overall dependence on gas, which will increasingly come from abroad as the North Sea continues its decline.

“And after a boom in electric heat pump installations, it also makes sense to increase funding for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme which will see more and more households move away from using gas boilers that produce air pollution and keep us tied into international gas market volatility.

“However, when many households will be colder and poorer this winter, perhaps they will question why the funding is from 2025?"
