Commenting on the latest Government statistics for the roll out of electric vehicle chargers in the UK [1], Colin Walker, Head of Transport at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), said:
“One of the arguments used against the transition to EVs is that the UK simply doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to cater for them all. These figures disprove that argument.
“The speed at which new chargers are being rolled out is exponential. If the UK is to hit its target of 300,000 chargers by 2030, the growth in the number of EV chargers needs to be around 30% per annum – its currently at 42%, meaning the UK is on course to meet its targets ahead of schedule.
“Making the transition to EVs can save drivers over £1200 a year – the second-hand market is growing rapidly, with EVs available at an upfront cost that makes them increasingly accessible to millions of households. If people are worried about making that transition because of concerns about the adequacy of the UK’s charging infrastructure, these figures should offer a lot of reassurance.”
