Comment on Government response to Climate Change Committee’s 2023 Progress Report - farming and food

“Everyone has seen the effects of climate change on food and farming this year, feeling the impact in their pockets of higher food prices as farmers struggle to cope with both droughts and floods.

“The Climate Change Committee assessment of progress on agriculture and land use emissions in June was damning, with emissions increasing and a third of emissions reductions without a clear plan. This government response does nothing to reassure us that things have changed. It is thin gruel, lacking any real seriousness or detail at a time when everyone else can see that farming and food production are being hammered by the impacts of climate change.”
