Labour to tackle home energy standards for renters: comment

"The private rented sector has some of the coldest, poorest quality housing in the UK which has actively worsened the impacts of the cost of living crisis for some. With a lack of a proper plan for the sector for years, finally introducing ambitious targets would mean that renter's bills will be lowered and the UK's energy security will be better off as we'll need to import less gas from abroad as the North Sea continues its inevitable decline.

"Insulation is the most sensible action we can take to stop our housing making people colder and poorer, and stop people suffering from chilly homes that are expensive to run. Long term stable policy is essential for building up supply chains and making sure that landlords and tenants know what is expected of them, with appropriate limits and redress to ensure that standards are met."
