Commenting the latest Future Energy Scenarios (FES) report, published by the National Energy System Operator (NESO) [1], Jess Ralston, Energy Analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:
"The system operator's new analysis shows yet again that UK-based renewables are set to grow over the coming years in any scenario, boosting our energy security and shielding us from further fossil fuel crises.
"But the faster we build wind and solar, the quicker we push out gas power generation, reducing our exposure to volatile international gas markets and protecting our energy supplies from meddling by malign actors like Putin. The next big question is whether the Government's upcoming reforms of the wholesale market will help to weaken the grip of gas on our electricity prices, and whether the next round of CfDs will secure the big boost in offshore wind needed to keep us on track towards clean power."
