Commenting on Government plans to build out new electricity infrastructure including pylons, Dr Simon Cran-McGreehin, Head of Analysis at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said: "Connecting up new renewables to customers will improve UK energy security, with just one large offshore wind farm generating as much electricity each year as from gas that might be produced with new licences for gas drilling in the North Sea.
"The more UK-based wind and solar generation that's added, the more we're insulated from volatile international gas markets that have pushed up households energy bills by an average of £4,000 over the past four years." [1]
