Commenting on proposals expected to be submitted shortly for the Norwich to Tilbury pylon line [1] Jess Ralston, Energy Analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:
"Years of underinvestment in the grid means some British wind and solar energy is going to waste that could be powering British homes. This keeps us more reliant on gas which will increasingly come from abroad as North Sea continues to run out. It's this reliance on gas that has cost the UK an extra £90bn over the course of the crisis and forced household bills to soar. [2] If we want stabilised bills, energy independence and less wasted energy, building more grid infrastructure is vital.”
