Commenting on the news that the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme is to come to an end, Jess Ralston, analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:

"Just like households and industry, hospitals and schools have faced high gas prices driving up energy bills over the past few years.

"Investing in insulating cold, damp public buildings not only means better environments for pupils and patients, it also brings down bills which is ultimately a benefit to tax payers who have had to pay billions over the past few years to subsidise people’s energy bills. Scrapping this scheme might leave more for GB Energy to do, with competition tight for cash if this one body is also investing in renewable and nuclear projects too."

Notes to editors:

1. According to DESNZ, there will be no further investment in the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS). Existing PSDS grants will continue until 2027/28 but there will be no additional allocation of funding.
