Commenting on the news that the UK has recorded it's hottest day of the year so far [1] Gareth Redmond-King, Head of International Programme at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:

"These are frightening records we keep breaking - they cost lives, harm nature, and threaten our food supplies.

"At more than 1.3°C above pre-industrial times, the rate of temperature rise is faster than any time in our planet’s geological record. We are running out of time to avert ever more dangerous and costly climate change impacts, with the next UN climate summit the moment when all nations are expected to offer bolder commitments to speed up emissions cuts and the transition away from fossil fuels.

"The threat to our security and safety from climate change that this extreme heat represents, set alongside the economic benefits and opportunities of the clean energy future the world is already pursuing, should be a strong reminder that net zero  is the only solution we have to tackle climate change and limit that threat."

England has also had its warmest June on record, and the UK has experienced its second warmest since 1884, according to the Met Office. [2]
