Commenting on the European State of the Climate (ESOTC) 2025 report [1] Gareth Redmond-King, Head of International at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said: "
"This picture of Europe as the fastest warming continent comes amidst the second fossil fuel crisis in five years, and ahead of an expected extra-strong El Niño.
"Warnings of the risk to our food supplies from climate change and the loss of biodiversity were issued to the UK government late last year by their own national security experts. [2] With concern also rising over the risk of collapse of a North Atlantic current critical to our ability to grow food [3], scientists are clear that these threats should be taken much more seriously. With only one scientific solution on the table to halt climate change and limit these risks, it is increasingly clear net zero represents the solution to our energy security, cost of living, and food security, as well as preserving humans’ ability to continue to thrive on this planet.”
