Commenting on Government proposals to bolster clean power, including by setting out plans to reduce constraint payments to wind farms [1] Laura Anderson, Senior Associate at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:

“Bottlenecks in the UK’s energy system after decades of underinvestment in the grid have meant that, for years, Scotland’s been unable to make the most of its world-beating wind power.

"Novel ways to reduce constraint payments for taxpayers, while meaning lower bills for some Scottish billpayers, could be a win-win. Scotland’s got a wind industry we should be proud of - particularly as it reduces the UK's demand for volatile, expensive gas during this latest energy crisis [2] - and there have been calls to make sure that it benefits the local people and communities that host it for years.”
