Commenting on the news that UK heat pump sales reached record highs in 2025, with more than 125,000 units sold [1], Jess Ralston, Energy Analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:
"The UK has a clear choice, either make the switch to electric heat pumps, or heat homes with gas boilers increasingly running on foreign gas as North Sea output continues its inevitable ongoing decline. Our gas prices are dictated by the actions of Putin and Trump, but with recent renewables auctions securing record amounts of British wind and solar, these net zero technologies could shield UK heating bills from the volatility that has driven up costs in recent years. Gas prices reached an 11-month high in recent weeks. [2]
“British industry could gain from growth in the heat pump market too, with factories expanding and new export markets opening up in Europe as we up our manufacturing capacity. Let’s be frank, anyone arguing against heat pumps is arguing for more reliance on imported gas."
