Commenting on threats made by US President Donald Trump to attack Iranian power plants [1] Simon Cran-McGreehin, Head of Analysis at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:
"These further tensions likely mean even more volatility in oil and gas markets that ultimately translates onto household bills.
"While oil and gas companies profit now, the world is likely to lean ever more towards renewables and clean technologies to try to insulate against the insecurities in the global energy system that are revealing themselves again. The sun and wind don’t pass through the Strait of Hormuz to power solar panels on homes and offshore wind farms at sea that once installed in the UK, stay in the UK."
