Commenting on confirmation that Wales recorded its hottest ever June day on Thursday 25 July, Laura Dunn, Senior Associate at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, said:
“With communities across Wales sweltering through yet another heatwave, the official confirmation that Wales has recorded its highest ever temperature for the month of June will come as little surprise to anybody.
"The alarming speed at which temperature records continue to be broken, however – with this month’s heatwave arriving so quickly after the May heatwave which set another temperature record for Wales – is a sobering reminder of how climate change is making this kind of extreme weather more frequent and intense.
"The science is indisputable: until we reach net zero emissions, by shifting away from burning oil and gas, things will continue to get worse. Unlike the one-off heatwave of 1976, this heatwave is now one of many but also just a taste of a what’s to come, as extreme heat becomes an increasingly common experience across Wales, with hotter and hotter temperatures, putting vulnerable people at ever greater risk".
