The Government has declared severe drought in parts of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, East Sussex and West Sussex [1] Tom Cantillon, analyst at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU):

"The Government says this is the worst drought England has faced for decades, and it’s a clear warning that climate change is no longer a future risk for us. With parts of six counties now in severe drought, ministers are being forced into difficult trade-offs over how scarce water is used: balancing water supplies for homes with the needs of rivers, wildlife and farmers.

“This is what climate change looks like in practice: longer, hotter dry spells putting growing pressure on the water system we all rely on. New reservoirs will help, but they take years to build and still need rain to fill them, so cutting emissions to net zero has to go hand in hand with building them.”
