Commenting on analysis published by London Stock Exchange Group which shows that the value of the global green economy has hit a record high market value of $10 trillion [1] Gareth Redmond-King, Head of International at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) said:
"With revenues hitting $5 trillion last year, and market value $10 trillion this, it is increasingly clear the green economy represents not only the way to tackle environmental challenges like climate change but also one of the main growth opportunities of the 21st century.
"In the UK, the net zero industries this encompasses added more than £100 billion in value to the economy last year, supporting 1.1 million jobs. [2] Amidst the second fossil fuel crisis in five years, they also represent energy security in the face of volatile oil and gas prices. At this stage, economies trying to turn the clock back and boost fossil fuels are only risking their own economic security and growth."
