Responding to news that Ford has announced it will cut 800 jobs in the UK over the next three years [1] Colin Walker, Head of Transport at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit, said:

"This is obviously a worrying time for Ford employees. The company has been slow to move with the times, starting the year with just one electric model while the likes of BMW, Mercedes and Hyundai are exceeding their EV sales targets. [2]

"The reality is the transition to EVs is critical if the companies like Ford are to remain competitive in a world that is moving away from petrol and diesel vehicles. Analysis from CBI Economics has shown that a slow transition to EVs could see the industry’s economic output crash by 73%, or £34bn, with over 400,000 jobs being lost. [3]

“This is also a reminder that the gas price crisis has taken its toll not just on households, but businesses too.”
